The brand bears the name of Simon Bolivar, who led the effort to free most of South America from Spanish rule. Call him the George Washington of the hemisphere south of the equator. The brand was founded in 1902, and both the bands and the boxes feature a large, prominent photograph of the individual.

The cigar itself has a gorgeous chocolate brown wrapper that is little toothy and well-made. It's a pre-light pull that hints at earthy, almost barnyard tastes, indicating that this would be a very deep, earthy smoke. Hay, straw, and a hint of honey can be detected on the nose. The build quality is outstanding, with a smooth draw that produces a gratifying amount of smoke.

Cigar Aficionado Rated this cigar at 93 Points.
